The painting opens up a wide view of the lake, caught between dark mountain masses and a dramatic sky that spreads over the landscape in soft, light-varied transitions.
The foreground is dominated by deep green and turquoise tones of water, which give the motif a sense of peace, depth and spaciousness, while the warmer reflections on the mountains introduce tension between tranquility and the inner energy of nature.
