About this artwork
This is a very personal piece, and I hope that it shows how much I think about the present day, the philosophical questions my art tries to convey. I was inspired by the idea that the brain is able to constantly shift consciousness, from problem solving to dreaming. The different states are a fascination to me and I try to tap into these at different times. Here, the allure of my former 'life style' as a singer are the smoke that pervades those times.…
Here I am trying to show my more spiritual side, by raising myself above the smoke to live in a more calm space.
In my abstract work I like to experiment with geometry, structure, coloured surfaces, but also with natural subjects. I like to blend various techniques, using a combination of oil with acrylic. I start painting with underpainting. Darker areas and shadows are thinly layered. Thicker layers are then applied to provide the vivid colours.

« I always try to add a bit of poetry and lyricism into my work. My romantic soul is what does the creating, it sets the path. »
Attila Vencel is an artist based in Czechia whose works endeavor to capture "the game of light and shadow", as well as fleeting moments and moods. He describes one of the most important aspects of his artistic practice as imbuing his art with both poetry and lyricism. In his impressionist influenced pieces, the central themes are landscapes, nature, and florals. However, in Vencel's abstract compositions he explores geometry and structure. He creates using oils on canvas.
