"Spring" is an original work, inspired by Japanese aesthetics and my interest in the sustainability and transformation of materials. This small-format piece is made from fragments of leather and handmade cotton paper produced in a French artisanal paper mill.
The paper, sourced from series with irregularities, possesses a particular texture and presence that enriches the composition. I assemble these elements as they are in order to give them a… new place and reveal their aesthetic potential.
The interplay of textures and tones creates a clean and balanced composition. A detail of black rope introduces a subtle graphic contrast, while the palette of white, beige, and pink establishes a soft, cottony atmosphere, reminiscent of the gentle colors of spring.
Aurélie Pellat develops an artistic practice at the crossroads of design, visual arts research and leatherwork. From salvaged leather fragments, she composes works where the material becomes a living surface, a memory and a tension.
Nourished by geometric abstraction, minimalism, and Arte Povera, her approach explores the balance between formal rigor and organic vibration. The cuts, seams, and assemblages reveal the gesture, exposing the trace of time and the intrinsic strength of the material.
Her compositions explore pressure, restraint and repair, revealing an embodied abstraction that is both structured and sensitive.
Originally from the French Riviera, Aurélie Pellat lives and works in Paris.
