About this artwork
I wanted to capture the beauty of black men while giving them a safe space to express their emotions. Oftentimes men, especially black men, are inclined to bottle up their feelings or completely hide them. This deeply affects their mental health and there are a lack of safe spaces to express their true thoughts and feelings without being judged as unmasculine or weak. With this piece, I hope everyone who gazes upon it can be encouraged to look up…
and feel how they truly feel under the stars of the universe. I chose to paint on fabric to match the uniqueness of the piece and capture the details of the piece in a realistic way.
