About this artwork
Tempestuous Deep captures the essence of the ocean, the tumultuous sea beneath a partly stormy sky, through the use of varying shades of blue and the interplay of light across the waves. The presence of whitecaps and the subtle glimmer of sunlight on the water lends a sense of realism to the scene.
The sky dominates, with heavy clouds suggesting the aftermath of a storm and the imminent arrival of inclement weather. Breaks in the clouds allow rays… of light to filter through, casting a dramatic contrast between light and dark areas, evoking a powerful sensation of the ocean's natural beauty and its ever-changing moods.
This artwork was inspired by my deep love and fear of the ocean, depicting the ocean's allure and its inherent unpredictability. The result I hope is a painting that invites viewers to experience the vastness and inspiring qualities of the sea.

My artwork is a heartfelt expression of my deep love for nature & hope people admire nature’s beauty, respect it & take care of it, during these challenging times for the environment. Having been shortlisted for the John Moore’s Painting Prize 2025 I have been spurred on to continue creating these emotions
Growing up in North Wales, surrounded by natural landscapes, I found tranquillity and inspiration. This close connection to nature has profoundly influenced my artistic practice and belief that everyone should look after the natural world.
I have travelled across all 7 continents and witnessed first-hand how change is impacting every corner of the globe. These experiences shaped my creative journey, and my paintings are based on fond memories of my travels.
I work with high-quality oil paint, using a combination of brushwork & palette knife techniques, influenced by the Impressionists, I focus on capturing light & movement
