About this artwork
This painting is inspired by Dante's famous work, The Divine Comedy. It makes particular reference to the third part, Paradise, as well as to the engravings by Gustave Doré illustrating an edition of this work. The central composition unfolds in concentric circles of angels which, through pictorial writing, become motifs, signs, graphics, touches of light. The play of scales of the winged figures (written with a brush in white and increasingly smaller… in the center) creates luminous variations, from red to optical pink, interfering with the colored background. The gaze then circulates in the dynamic and labyrinthine networks of the composition to the rhythm of the colored particles.
Work signed lower right, sold with invoice and certificate of authenticity.
Dimensions of the framed work: 136 x 103 x 4 cm. White American box. (130 x 97 error on the photo on the back of the canvas)
« To paint, for me, is to make a world emerge in the image of our world, unstable and moving. »
