About this artwork
Eros and Thanatos - life instinct and death instinct so dear to Freud. The two forces that govern human actions. Freud was the first to theorize the profound split that each of us has to face every second, the choice between good and evil. In my painting I wanted to express in a determined way the concept of eros. The pleasure of living, getting excited, feeling enveloped by the sensual warmth of transparencies, and I wanted to represent death with…
a skull, on books that tell the past and contain knowledge. A way of exorcising death as an inevitable conclusion of a life filled with nectar that sometimes becomes bitter, in an indissoluble alternation, and that finds the sum of our existence in the word "end".
