About this artwork
In my artwork, I combine high-quality silicone with bright, fluorescent, light-blue pigment to create a sculptural wonderland for the wall that blends dynamism and nature. This composition reflects the concept of coexistence and interaction between technological and natural worlds. The wall sculpture connects directly to the wall without any gaps, as if small organic sculptures appear to grow directly out of the wall into the room. Each element of…
the image is highly complex and distinct from the others, crafted using a complex, artistic molding process. The structures, artfully crafted with detailed surface haptics, perhaps reminiscent of cucumbers, bend, move, and change individually. A sculpture composed of many small sculptures as a vibrant invitation to contemplate the harmony in the unpredictable and to welcome the energy of the new into every room.

The sprawling cosmos of Dortmund artist Barbara Koch zooms viewers into a magical world of her own. Koch uses media such as painting, sculpture, and installations and trained at renowned art schools such as the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan. Her distinctive style, characterized by a professional and conscious approach to her chosen visual language, focuses on the classic casting of abstract-figurative formations, incorporating initial drawings, models, and ultimately silicone elements into the creative process.
The biomorphic formations, often made of silicone, seem to exude a toxic beauty. The works are typically multi-partite, evoking associations with swarms, lichens, and fungi, as well as imaginative magnifications of microcosmic phenomena and flourishing, intact underwater worlds.
