About this artwork
Action painting gave rise to this monumental work. The artist went to a very beautiful spot on the river (Rhine near Worms) and dipped the raw canvas into the Rhine. She applied sand from the Rhine beach as well as pigments and paints. An abstract landscape was created that represents the Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. Gold-colored pigments allude to Hagen's treasure in the Rhine (Saga of the Nibelungs). In all its wildness, the Rhine is… predominantly depicted in shades of blue. The painting could also be installed vertically - then it would be completely abstract.
The picture is not framed and will be shipped rolled. The wrinkles and creases were created by the action painting and are intentional. It shows an original character.
There are many presentation options. It can even be installed unframed as a painted canvas.
« For me, representational and abstract paintings play a synonymous role. When I look at my work, I have to say, "That's it!" »
Barbara Schauß is an established German painter whose works have been exhibited in regional and national exhibitions. Her love for art began as a child when she discovered her father's books of world famous paintings. Inspired by the Impressionist movement, Schauß was greatly moved to paint after seeing Monet's "Fields in Spring" and famous lily pads. She also experiments in abstract painting, working in both oils and acrylics. Schauß is compelled by colors and aims to represent an overall atmosphere, whether harmonious or discordant, through her work.
