About this artwork
Prima Ballerina - Work in progress.
This sculpture is the original artwork which is made in wax clay which is still to be cast into bronze. The next step in the process is to make the mold in several sections, using silicon rubber which captures the finest detail, contained within a shell of resin to retain the shape.
The next step is to prepare the wax which when hardened is removed and sections are then sent to the foundry to be cast into bronze.… When the sections have been cast into bronze, they are welded together into the final sculpture which is then ready for the patina to be applied. Finally, it is polished to accentuate the finish.
The freestanding sculpture will stand on a steel disk for stability, but which can be bolted to any surface.
Note: In one of the photos there is an insert showing a sample of the final patina.

Barry Jackson is an experienced artist from South Africa whose bronze sculptures have been exhibited nationally and are held in public collections. He began drawing as a kid and after winning an art competition at the young age of 13 on Zambia TV, Jackson decided to devote his life to art. Portraiture and wildlife are the main themes in his sculptures, and he is often commissioned to create life size public works of famous figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and Louis Van Mauritius.
