About this artwork
The new series "Fragilty" focuses on the physical presence of the surface. The artist works with natural and construction-related materials such as lime putty, gypsum plaster, sand, and pigments, which are applied layer by layer, compacted, and then partially exposed again. This creates relief-like pictorial bodies that oscillate between painting and object.
The series is an exploration of structure, haptics, and reduction—each work speaks of a… process of construction and erosion, of stability and fragility. The use of lime, a breathable, living material, combines traditional craft techniques with a contemporary aesthetic. The play of light and shadow, which deepens into the finely graded surfaces, creates a quiet tension that invites the viewer to contemplate.
I will soon no longer be offering my artwork through Singulart. Follow me on Instagram or subscribe to my newsletter. Beate Bröcker's art deliberately addresses themes of societal and personal vulnerability, coupled with a quiet yet impressive strength. Bröcker's works, particularly her papier-mâché sculptures of women, explore the tension between fragility, resilience, and a subtle presence. With understated sensitivity and a touch of humor, she invites viewers to confront their own and collective vulnerabilities and to draw strength and courage for responsible action from them. She employs an abstract, minimalist, and experimental working method; her works are often created from recycled packaging waste – a conscious political statement for sustainability and social responsibility. Her artworks are touching in their subtle presence and convey a quiet, courageous strength.
