About this artwork
While settling into San Francisco, I found myself drawn to the tension between its past and present—particularly the visual remnants of the city before and after the 1906 earthquake. This piece is influenced by historic photographs, personal accounts from survivors, and the warm orange and pink hues that continue to define many of the city’s older structures. I use these elements to create a dialogue between history and modern experience, reflecting… how the city’s identity continues to shift over time.
Benjamin Pesqueda is a California-based contemporary artist who masterfully blends oil on canvas, watercolor, mixed media, photography, and digital fine art, rooted in a background that unites classical disciplines with digital innovation. His technique is distinguished by a hybrid process, building images through layered construction, soft transitions, controlled palettes, and a subtle interplay between digital precision and painterly mark-making, resulting in works that hover between representation and abstraction. His art exudes quietude and atmospheric depth, inviting viewers into meditative spaces where emotion and memory are gently awakened through restraint and transformation.
