About this artwork
This layered painting is my attempt to capture that very specific moment in the Burgundy vineyards just before harvest, when everything looks calm, generous, and slightly smug about the wine it is about to become. The scene is inspired by the vineyards around Beaune, a place that has quietly worked its way into my personal calendar and my color palette. My father was born there, and over the years it has become an almost annual ritual to return—ostensibly… to admire the landscape, but also (let’s be honest) to enjoy the local wines. The painting builds up in layers, much like the vines themselves, holding onto sunlight, soil, and time.I want the viewer to linger in the colors, to feel what I experience when standing between the rows: that warm mix of anticipation, beauty, and the pleasant knowledge that something very good is coming soon. If the painting makes you feel relaxed, slightly nostalgic, or suddenly in need of a glass of Burgundy, then it is doing exactly what it was meant
I am an Antwerp-based artist, born and raised in the north of the city, where grey skies, strong opinions, and good light have all played their part in shaping my work. I am self-taught, though growing up with an artist mother and a family permanently orbiting around art meant I never really had a chance to escape it anyway. I’ve been painting and drawing since a young age, and at some point I made the inevitable leap into abstraction. My work is deeply inspired by the nature around my neighbourhood and the landscapes I encounter, but just as much by events, social dynamics, and the wonderfully confusing behavior of humans. All my paintings are oil on canvas and built up in multiple layers, creating depth—both visually and emotionally—much like the thoughts that tend to pile up while making them. I exhibited my work for a while, then slowed down due to other occupations (life has a talent for doing that). Now feels like the right moment to go to the next level and properly contribute
