About this artwork
Iris is the Greek messenger of the gods who descends to the people on the rainbow (later replaced by Hermes). Even with Rosenheim, despite the helmet, there is nothing warlike about her; on the contrary, the hint of a smile seems to be recognizable. On the side, the helmet shows an eye with a yellowish iris - the iris of the eye is named after this goddess. The yellow could again allude to the light-eyedness of some goddesses described by Homer.
