About this artwork
The Morning Star
A delicate curtain separates two worlds – and within it, seemingly suspended, a bride awaits her bridegroom. Woven as if from light, she evokes Chagall's figures suspended between heaven and earth. Her gaze is turned inward, her form surrounded by gentle rays. She is the light of the world – within it, but not from it. The darkness cannot grasp her. In her, the morning star announces itself, rising in hearts as the Bible promises:… a radiant sign of the coming glory of Christ. Thus, this work unites the earthly with the heavenly – a silent symbol of hope, awakening, and the eternal promise of the Almighty.
Bernhard Maria Moehnle is a German-born and trained painter who, after his experience in stage design and animation, devoted himself entirely to painting ("solapintura"). He develops a unique visual language for each series of paintings, combining classical modernism with artists such as Rembrandt, Chagall, and Max Ernst, thus creating a distinctive neo-Renaissance style. His works convey profoundly emotional messages of Christianity and touch the viewer with their symbolic clarity, spiritual depth, and expressive power.
