« L'aquarelle est une pratique quotidienne, comme les gammes d'un pianiste. Tous les jours, lorsque je pars dans la campagne et au bord de la mer, je cherche dans les paysages quelque chose que la science commence à nommer et que les peintres ont toujours pressenti : une intelligence collective du vivant, aérienne, souterraine, silencieuse. Je la cherche, je la décrypte à travers les accords secrets des formes, des liens entre le ciel, la terre,…
les couleurs, la manière dont ces éléments s'entrelacent, et puis je la capte, je l'archive. Je mets en évidence la symbiose du vivant. »

A graduate of ENSAD Paris, Bertille Gentil has been exploring the fragile memory of living things for three decades. Her Arctic residency in Svalbard (2019) marked a turning point: from radical land art to lucid contemplation through painting.

Based in Aegina, she creates "sensitive archives"—paintings that capture Mediterranean landscapes before they burn. Neither nostalgic nor alarmist, her canvases are evidence of existence for future generations.
