This majestic male Elk was photographed in the Cherokee valley of North Carolina. September marks the rutting season, when male Elks fiercely compete for mating rights. In this striking moment, I captured this enormous bull asserting his dominance, his powerful frame and imposing antlers a clear warning to rival males. Every muscle tensed, every movement deliberate- he was a living symbol of strength and authority in the wild.
