About this artwork
This work was created as sketch from India, where the artist lived on two occasions for several years. Through this painting, the artist explored the colours of India, which she found different from those of the Mediterranean with which she is very familiar having been born there. The turquoise blue, characteristic of the Mediterranean, is replaced with the light grey-blue in this work, as she noticed it being the colour of the sky in India. Because…
the artist often moved from country to country, the colour blue became constant in her works no matter where she lived, symbolising not only the sky but also her continuous travels. The light blue in this work intertwines with vibrant red colour so characteristic of India and simplified architectural forms inspired by historical buildings of Moghul architecture of Delhi.

« Representing architectural objects in my art gives me an insight into the study of human experience, time and space, providing a basis for ideas of the space we live in. »
Branka Ridicki is an experienced Croatian painter with international exposure. Questioning the concept of space and time, her work is influenced by journeys, the natural world, literature and architecture. This focus is inspired by the cultural framework she grew up in, within the historical urban architecture of her native town Zadar, as well as in the context of multicultural experiences throughout her constant relocations to New York, Cairo, Colombo and Delhi. Ridicki brings the Mediterranean sea and sky to life with bold colors and smart spacing.
