About this artwork
This painting describes the textures and marks left on the Connemara landscape. The ridges and lines still to be seen, connecting us to the lives and work done by our ancestors. It reminds us of the hardships they endured carving out a living in this harsh but beautiful area.

« I grew up in an amazing, wild, exciting yet sparse place and I hope that through my paintings, others will get a sense of what it is to be there. »
Bridget Ryan is an Irish artist who has exhibited her paintings nationally, as well as in England and the United States. In her art, she portrays the old houses, farm buildings, seascapes, lake scapes, and the landscapes of her native Connemara. Isolation is a central focus of Ryan's compositions and is used to convey the physical nature of the area and the sadness that surrounds the buildings, which often deserted, but still echo with the whispers of her ancestors.
