About this artwork
Using a colour palette to reflect those in water, the artist allowed the paints to flow organically and spontaneously across the canvas, the way water flows, allowing herself to 'let go' to create abstract shapes and designs until she was happy with the balance of colour and the rich, intricate patterning. Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
