About this artwork
A large, dark and mysterious abstract with a heavy and beautifully textured surface reminiscent of the moon. There is layer upon layer of acrylic paint creating depth in the shadows while the metallic copper foil leaf adds a beautiful soft glow. The paint has been carried onto the sides as has the copper. Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
