About this artwork
Living on the coast of Western Australia fuels her imagination and provides her with ample opportunity and inspiration for her Waterscapes. The vivid colours of the Kimberley region, with its sapphire and turquoise tropical waters have been captured here in liquid acrylic, a medium she often uses for its ability to beautifully mimic the flow of water, frozen in motion. the different densities of paint reacting to each other to organically mingle and swirl. The resulting surface irregularities, with minor cracks and captured blobs of paint, adds to the abstract quality and imperfect beauty of her art. Once dry, she overworks areas to enhance and add further vitality, depth and colour, always striving for a sense of harmony and balance. The metallic gold adds a glow and glimmer that is hard to photograph.

Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
