A storm at sea is a fearful sight almost like a living entity, as boats are tossed around in churning seas with waves smashing down on them, sailors battered and bruised as they try and stay afloat. In its wake there is an eerie stillness with air that is clean, crisp and invigorating with a feeling of being 'reborn'. Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
