About this artwork
The legendary Phoenix, with plumage of red and gold, rose and was reborn from the ashes. So too, will mankind rise up and thrive again in the wake of COVID-19. Textured paste was applied to the canvas, which gives it an interesting 3D design, on which acrylic and liquid acrylic paint was applied and swirled around, creating an intricate feathery pattern. The paint has been carried onto the sides, eliminating the need for framing.

Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
