About this artwork
This stunning seascape was inspired by the stark contrast of the deep, rich, earthy tones of the redstone cliffs and where they meet the tropical turquoise waters at Cape Leveque in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. I used fluid acrylic paint to mimic the flow of the ocean as it washes onto the cliffs, which created wonderfully intricate patterning and surface texture. The paint also covers the sides. Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
