About this artwork
After watching the tragic events unfold at Whakaari/White Island in New Zealand, the artist was inspired (for want of a better word) to create a painting as tribute to the victims of this terrible cataclysmic disaster. Brigitte Ackland is a talented British painter based in Australia who has exhibited her work throughout both countries. Previously a full-time ceramic and mosaic artist, with additional experience in photography and embroidery, today she primarily applies her skills to painting. Living on the west coast of Australia heavily influences her work: the white sand, red earth and swirling tropical seas of the Indian Ocean dance along her canvases and leap towards the viewer. Ackland ultimately seeks to create a sense of visual harmony in her painting, and hopes they resonate with people.
