About this artwork
I wasn’t expecting to create this piece. For all my previous works, I always had a clear idea before starting, but this one came out of nowhere.
It was a Sunday, and my husband and I were on our way to a party, only to discover that it was actually scheduled for another date. Already dressed and out of the house, we decided to do something anyway, just because we were ready. As we walked, it started pouring rain, and we didn’t have an umbrella. The… water ran over my face, melting all my makeup and turning it into something unexpectedly beautiful.
While the rain soaked me and my makeup blurred, I thought about everything that had been happening in my life lately.
I caught myself holding back tears, trying to control the emotions that were threatening to overflow.
In that moment, I realized I had been denying myself the right to be sad, and somehow, this spontaneous creation captured that struggle.
