About this artwork
This painting was created from my memories of Crete. The island left a strong impression on me through its colors, light and the warm spirit of the people. Campanula, a purple flower that grows on Crete, became the starting point of this work.
I made this painting in an intuitive way, layer by layer; guided by a deep feeling rather than a plan. I followed my instincts and allowed the painting to grow naturally. The bright and lively colors reflect… the Greek mentality for me, open, warm ans full of life.
At the top of the painting I used gold leaf. It reminds me of the soft, warm sunlight on Crete, reflecting on the sea. The gold catches the light and changes with it, just like my memories of the island.
