About this artwork
This small watercolor depicts a cluster of fresh cherry tomatoes – four round fruits tightly joined together. Their vibrant red shines brightly against the soft violet-gray background, which is deliberately kept simple to keep the tomatoes the focus. They lie loosely on a surface, their green stems and leaves appearing slightly twisted and irregular – just as they do in nature. I tried to capture the light playing on the glossy surfaces of the fruits…
and to emphasize their freshness and roundness with small white reflections.
The background in soft violet tones creates a calm, almost poetic mood. It contrasts with the warm red and lends the image a certain depth without being distracting.
The picture was taken in 2025 and signed with my initials CK.

Caro Krebietke lives in Stuttgart. She is an artist and curator. She studied Fine and Applied Ceramics at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, but works in a wide variety of materials and techniques.
Caro Krebietke has participated in numerous international residencies, including in Germany, France, Norway, the USA, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Namibia, Vietnam, Romania, and the Czech Republic. Examples include the residency grant at Lichtenberg Studios in Berlin (2022), artist-in-residence in Træna, Norway (2018/2019), and the “Hit The Beat” project in Namibia (2013/2015).
Her artistic works have been exhibited in various countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Russia, Vietnam, Romania, Denmark, Switzerland and Great Britain.
