« I question the perception of the female body as an object of desire - of aesthetic and erotic pleasure, and the consequent alienation underlying the complex condition of womanhood. »
Guth is a gifted French painter whose compex family history and identity - a grandmother who is a descendant of slaves from Martinique, largely absent male figures - has fed into her work. Consequently exploring ideas about femininity, tragedy, justice, race and uprooting, she creates striking, thoughtful figurate nudes.
