About this artwork
This work is part of a series on the world wars, here the first, with a small soldier strangely imbued with gentleness.
In all my work it is a question of a world where the presence of man is no longer obvious. Here he is still there but on the threshold of his disappearance. I refer among other things to the "Gaia" hypothesis of James Lovelock. In this theory, the earth is an organism capable of self-regulation. If one of its elements malfunctions,… it is eliminated from the system which will continue without him. In my paintings in general, the world has decided to continue without man and we are just before, or sometimes just after our extinction.
