About this artwork
Surrender places two modes of painting in direct confrontation on raw linen: a single unmediated crimson stroke — applied in one gesture, bearing the full evidence of its making — set against a meticulously rendered flowing form in deep violet and magenta, built over meticulous attention.
Neither element explains the other. They share the canvas without resolution, meeting only at one quiet point at the base, where the painted form curls gently toward… the mark.
The tension between impulse and control — between what paint does in a moment and what it does over time — is the subject of this work. The unprepared linen ground holds both equally, refusing to choose between speed and slowness, rawness and refinement.
