About this artwork
When creating this painting, Casper Verborg was interested in the question what would happen when he picked a part of a larger scene to function as painting on its own. This work could be a detail of a larger work. It suggests a larger world outside the canvas boundaries. By zooming in on a specific face, the action becomes more personal and private compared to a painting depicting a larger scene. The painting is not meant as a portrait of a lady,…
but rather as a snapshot or screenshot from a larger, unseen narrative. It is a glimpse of a story that we cannot see or hear, we can only feel it.
The title is reference to the song 'Careful with that axe, Eugene' by Pink Floyd, because of the terrifying scream that is part in the song. Pink Floyd is one the bands Casper Verborg is listening to when painting.
You may recognize the lady's mouth, as it appears in the Hitchcock movie 'psycho'.
