About this artwork
This painting started with an abstract and expressive background, painted with bright and vibrant colors. Casper Verborg used a brought variety of resources such as rags, sponges, palette knives, pieces of cardboard and his hands (don’t worry, he is wearing gloves). With this explicitly present yet abstract and thus more universal background, the images contains notions of architecture, a cloudburst, forest or waves of the sea.
Amidst these waves… of colour a human figure arises. According to Verborg, they are as anonymous as they are recognizable. Transcending the individual, they do not stand for themselves but humanity. They are caught in a world that looks like that irresistible piece of candy that is actually of chemical substance, marching towards a colorful and toxic apocalypse.

Casper Verborg is a Dutch painter, whose figurative works centre on storytelling and exploring the intricacies of the human condition. A graduate of KASK School of Arts in Ghent and ArtEZ in Arnhem, Verborg is currently living and working in the Netherlands.
