About this artwork
Casper Verborg began this large canvas with abstract area's of paint. During the process, these colorful shapes transformed into clouds and a sky and was completed with some plants in a deserted landscape below. It had a mysterious atmosphere, as if something could happen there. When Casper was thinking about the figures, he wanted to enhance this mood of a secret gathering. They are merely painted as silhouettes, figures without a plain identity.…
The painting is called 'the griots' because the figures reminded Verborg of the minstrels in Africa: the people who tell tales and fables.
The work is signed in the left corner below with the thumb of the artist (see the detailed pictures), and it served as the invitation for his solo exhibition at Hoorn & Reniers gallery in The Hague.
