About this artwork
In fact, this painting is a detail of the large diptych 'event, no. 2 (pink elephant)'. In this work, the lady is one of the vast amount of people who are playing their role in the scene. (you can find her at the left part of the specific painting). Casper Verborg was interested in the question what would happen when he picked a part of a larger scene to function as painting on its own. By zooming in on a specific face, the action becomes more personal…
and private.
The painting is not meant as a portrait of a lady, but rather as a snapshot or screenshot from a larger, unseen narrative. It is a glimpse of a story that we cannot see or hear, we can only feel it. Casper used expressive brushstrokes and a colorful palette to further establish this feeling.
