"Emergency exit" depicts characters locked in their solitude, waiting, close to boredom. This is what these two seated women feel for me.
Their eyes wander a little, their bodies heavy, tired. Their crocheted fingers.
Then, the desire to flee, to live, to breathe.
Because outside, there is noise, there are others, there is life.
The figure in the background points to an exit. His gaze still reveals a little doubt…
The woman in the white dress… is hurrying towards the exit.
I wanted in this painting to stage this need for openness to the world, to the other.
Get out of a withdrawal.
Oil on canvas painted with a knife and brushes.
Kraft edging strips, painted black, protect the edges of the work.
The canvas is equipped with a rear hooking system.
