About this artwork
Blue Line 2 is the second in this triage that picks up the dominant turquoise band. Various hues of the colour turquoise comes up frequently in her work. She walked the turquoise mining areas scouting for chunks she could cut and polish with lapidary equipment to then be set into jewelry. These life experiences emerge in the shapes and forms in her work; there is a dialogue with the colours in the earth's treasures; the veins in rocks; a marvel at…
the power of minerals in our lives along with exploiting of earth's gifts.

« It is walking on the land and understanding the force of land-structure via a somatic transference that feeds my work. »
An established, award-winning artist, Catherine creates works on paper, canvas, and wood panel inspired by geology, memory, and the natural world. Her experimental use of materials mimics ancient textures—rock forms, strata, and buried histories. Residencies in Iceland provided a living laboratory for engaging with raw, elemental landscapes. Originally from London, she now lives and works between Austin, Texas, and London, UK. She holds a BFA in Metal Sculpture and Silversmithing (Surrey Institute of Art & Design) and an MFA in Studio Practice (JFK University, Berkeley). Catherine’s residencies include Lucid Art Foundation (CA), Cill Rialaig (Ireland), and Skaftfell (Iceland). Her work has been shown widely, including at Seager Gray Gallery, SFMOMA Artists Gallery, and Hammerfriar Gallery. Awards include the Sonoma Emerging Artist Award and First Prize at “Visions of Science” (UK). Her work has been featured in Interalia, Shout Out Miami, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
