About this artwork
Elements is a conceptual artwork, representing the two opposites, water and fire. Cathy confesses that she was one of those people who never quite 'Got' the 'Colour Field,' artworks that often takes pride of place in galleries. Mostly painted on huge canvases with no real content to speak of, the artist concentrating mainly on colour and texture .
A few years ago, she was encouraged to look into this style of art, which she decided was quite misunderstood.… Appearing simple, until you actually have a go at creating a piece, only to realise it's quite the opposite. Cathy proceeded to paint a series in this style and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. Realising that not all homes have large wall spaces, she purposely chose small to mid sized canvases, whose content relate to one another and despite their size, can still make a contemporary space pop.
