About this artwork
In 1975, the artist returned to New York, city of his birth. He was 25 years old and had come to choose between a career as an artist or a stockbroker. Despite encouragement from a gallery, he followed a false lead from a brokerage firm. A year later, he began his training to become a stockbroker, ultimately leading him to Wall Street both as a resident and an employee of a firm which no longer exists. The only things which survived those 10 years…
as a broker are 3 sons and several boxes of slides. Most of these paintings are from those slides, but since then there have been other returns and paintings representing them. Oil on canvas mounted on panel.

Chaim Bezalel has always been interested in different cultures. As a child, he would collect hand carved objects by anonymous artists from around the globe. This led to a passion for art, manifesting in the fields of photography and painting. History and historical content, including cultural illusions, is behind much of his work. His unique artworks are created by combining traditional materials, such as gouache and oils, with unconventional techniques. He believes art is a necessity, not a luxury.
