Heat without flame. In Smoulder, the eleventh painting in the "Chasing the Light" series, a wall of crimson cloud closes in around a single molten core — the sky not so much glowing as catching, the moment before a blaze either breaks or burns itself out. A low mountain line holds the horizon steady while still water below repeats the fire in slower, smokier strokes, doubling the event without repeating it exactly. Acrylic on canvas, 100 × 100 cm.
