About this artwork
This is an oil painting of a group of duck hunters getting ready by putting out their decoys. My mentor and the chair of Averett's math department, Dr. Ethington, was a big-time duck hunter back in the day. So, I put him standing up next to one of his dogs in the boat.
Charles Hill is a painter with a rich background in both art and mathematics, drawing inspiration from old masters and modern greats, and working in oils, acrylics, and pencil. He masterfully employs photo-realism, surrealism, and post-impressionistic styles, building intricate layers with glazing, dry brush, and wet-on-wet techniques. His art explores the interconnections between art, science, and mathematics, powerfully evoking both the visible world and its hidden, inner dimensions, inviting viewers into profound contemplation and awe.
