About this artwork
I painted this using a railway modelling figure from the Preiser company as a model. It's called 'Woman Blowing Bubble Gum' and it's about 1 cm high. It is a very funny image, because it is made of solid plastic - while the thing being depicted is as light as can be, the reality is a blob of plastic as heavy as the head which is blowing it. It makes an ironic image for a painter; it refers to a long tradition of paintings about the fragility of…
time, like Chardin's 'Soap Bubbles' for example, but it also subverts that tradition by its origin.
