About this artwork
The painting "Old Cupboard Backlit" depicts the two doors of a weathered pantry. It stands in our hallway, and the interplay of light and shadow upon it inspired me to capture the beauty of that moment. The work, executed in black and white oil on canvas, conveys to me a sense of tranquility that is, unfortunately, often hard to find.

Chris Bitzer works as a sculptor and painter, originally trained in church restoration, but he has explored a wide range of artistic disciplines. He favors photorealistic oil painting, mostly in black and white, inspired by the aesthetics of old photographs and imbued with a deep respect for craftsmanship. His works range stylistically from classical to experimental, as he constantly explores new techniques. In his paintings, he conveys a quiet yet compelling emotional depth, full of curiosity and a yearning for freedom, far removed from preconceived notions – beauty takes center stage.
