About this artwork
Painted at Gwithian looking towards Godrevy Lighthouse in Cornwall this is one of my favorite subjects, the winter storms that role in from the Atlantic. I love the energy, the constantly changing nature and light of crashing waves, the sound, the salt air, the wind, everything in constant motion and change, the Sun briefly glimpsed that is the engine that drives the Earth's weather. Immersing himself in nature is the fundamental philosophy of the…
artists work, but also to do this with respect for nature as when wild camping to tread the Earth lightly and to leave no trace, no rubbish when leaving what the artist takes to a place he brings back with him. There are no exceptions to this. Although already sold I have been asked on occasion to create a similar version and I do accept commissions. The price for this size of artwork is £2900

« My aim is to live my life as simply as I can, to respect and explore the natural world and through my art promote a sustainable and peaceful way of life. »
Chris Hankey is an established British painter whose works have featured in prizes, exhibitions and publications throughout the UK, Ireland, Australia and USA. Starting each work by cycling to explore local landscapes, with a sketch pad packed and inspiration at every turn, he composes luminous landscapes and seascapes that capture the profound connection between consciousness and nature. He harnesses an impasto, expressionistic approach to build textured layers before finishing with glazes to achieve a glowing diffusion of light.
