About this artwork
This painting is of a ship to shore dingy moored in St Ives harbour in Cornwall. This area has an historic connection with artists due to the quality of the light. The painting can be viewed as a symphony of reds (approximately five different reds were used to control the tone without muting the luminosity) complimenting the warm translucent green of the warm shallow waters of the harbour.

« I am always trying to discover what the painting is about, the object matter is not the subject matter. »
Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
