About this artwork
Based on an Oil painting by the artist, it depicts three fishermen and a dog that fish the Teign estuary in Devon. They use traditional methods that have been passed down for centuries. The drawing is a mixed media piece that mixes pencil, chalk and colour pencils, traditionally a mix that is not normally used together but the artist has developed a method to enable the marriage of this mix of materials. The composition incorporates curves triangles…
and squares, a common element of Feng Shui as well as several Golden sections, something that the ancient Greeks discovered and believed to be a natural harmony as it it a mathematical ratio that exists in many aspects of nature and has been used in then the classical world, during the renaissance by artists and architects alike.

« I am always trying to discover what the painting is about, the object matter is not the subject matter. »
Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
