About this artwork
This is from a series of traditional nudes in domestic settings. It has a more painterly approach than current work. The use of colour is less naturalistic than current work and more about colour harmonies, in this case warm analogous colour. The circular format creates a more dynamic setting that has to be stabilised by the horizontal nature of the bedstead.

Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
