About this artwork
He started this work as a relatively straightforward painting of women dancing naked around a fire, with the figures gestured rather than clearly defined. His focus was on capturing movement with form. He then decided to partially obscure the figures with vertical and horizontal scrapes of paint in purple, red, yellow and black whilst allowing small patches to shine through these layers.
