Christian Bärnthaler works with analog and historical photographic processes, particularly the wet plate collodion process, and has a solid background from the Graz Academy of Photography. His unique works are created with wooden cameras on glass plates, strictly without retouching, often in black and white or using the RA4 process on color paper. He employs intense staging to capture authenticity and transience. His art touches with a powerful honesty, conveys depth, and prompts reflection on humanity, love, suffering, and social issues.
